Fall Activities for Seniors

The changing leaves, cooler temperatures, and pumpkin spice coffee are sure signs that summer is coming to an end. That also means that autumn is almost here, and it is time to start planning fall activities. Sometimes with age, it is more difficult to participate in fall activities that were once enjoyed. However, keeping a positive mindset and staying active are essential for an aging person’s over all well-being. Here are some senior-friendly fall activities that allow us all to take advantage of the beautiful autumn weather.

Fall activities

Decorate for Fall

Embrace warm fall colors like orange, red, and yellow. Put a new wreath on your door. You can easily make a wreath with outdoor foliage from trees. Head to a local farmer’s market or fall festival and purchase gourds, pumpkins, and cornstalks to use to decorate.

Enjoy the Weather

Sometimes in the summer it is too hot to enjoy the fresh air. Now is a perfect time to sit and relax on the front porch. Observe the squirrels collect acorns in preparation for winter, listen to the neighborhood children frolic about their yards, or watch the colorful array of leaves fall from the trees. Grab a blanket and book and breathe in the crisp air. If you prefer a more physical activity, go for a short walk with a friend or loved one around the yard, neighborhood, or park. On chillier evenings have a gathering with friends and family, build a bonfire, make s’mores, and tell scary stories.

Visit a Local Pumpkin Patch

Visiting a local pumpkin patch is a great day trip that also supports the community. Finding the perfect pumpkin is more exciting when it involves a hayride through the fields with friends and family. Some pumpkin patches/farms also have markets with locally made treats, a petting zoo, sunflower fields, corn mazes, and many more fall activities.

Go on a Scenic Drive

Enjoy a scenic ride to a historical location, sightseeing spot, local winery, or park. Along the way, stop at a local café or bakery and pick up some apple cider or pumpkin spice desserts in case you need a snack on the adventure.

These fun fall activities for seniors offers a chance to spend some great quality time with your loved ones while enjoying the beautiful scenery and fresh autumn air.
